On July 15, the TaoNan Wind Power Coupled Biomass Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project, invested and constructed by Shanghai Electric, was put into operation at the TaoNan Green Energy Chemical Industrial Park in western Jilin. The first phase of the demonstration project has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of green methanol. The first batch of nationwide large-scale green methanol produced will be transported via a “TaoNan production — land and sea combined transport — Shanghai refueling” model. It will then be shipped on a CMA CGM container vessel to the international market as marine fuel.
TaoNan Wind Power Coupled Biomass Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project
This project is the first green hydrogen coupled biomass gasification to green methanol project in China, one of the first national demonstration projects for green electricity hydrogen production and local consumption, and the first green methanol project certified by the EU ISCC throughout the entire process. The total investment for the project is 22.4 billion RMB, implemented in three phases. Once fully operational, the project will have an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of green methanol.
The commissioning of this project marks the first large-scale production of green methanol through the coupling of wind power hydrogen production and biomass gasification in the industry, representing a significant technological breakthrough for China in the field of green hydrogen-based fuels.
This project is the first to achieve a commercial closed-loop for green fuel from inland production bases to international ports, providing a new technological route and business model for large-scale green electricity consumption. It also offers a "China solution" for decarbonizing the shipping industry with both economic and sustainable benefits.
In this demonstration project, Moon-Tech has applied a -40°C high-efficiency, energy-saving dual-compressor two-stage refrigeration system solution, which provides crucial equipment support for the low-temperature methanol washing process technology used in green methanol production.
Moon-Tech has established a comprehensive technology matrix covering the entire green fuel industry chain: upstream, it deeply participates in green electricity — green hydrogen — green methanol raw material preparation; midstream, it focuses on the application of new marine fuels (FGSS); and downstream, it expands into CCUS/OCCS carbon capture and purification technologies, forming a complete “production - storage - transport - use” technological closed loop. This continuous innovation drives the high-quality development of China’s green new energy industry.
